We turn your idea into a book people buy.

We handle all six stages of making a book: the idea, the writing, the editing and design, publishing to every major store, the launch, and sales after that. You keep the rights and every royalty.

  • We set the interior and the spine
  • We prepare, publish and market it

A free thirty minute call

Tell us where your book is

One editor reads it and replies within a business day. Nothing is charged and nothing is committed.

Optional

Your details go to our editorial team and nowhere else.

More than four hundred authors published since 2016. The first call is free, and nothing is charged until the plan is in writing.

The problem

What we hear on the first call

“I have written 40,000 words and no idea what happens next.”

One editor reads all 40,000 words and comes back with a chapter by chapter plan: what stays, what moves, what is still missing.

“I got a quote for $18,000 and could not tell what I was paying for.”

One number with nothing under it is the problem. Ours is broken out line by line: every pass, who does it, how many revisions, and what you own at the end.

“I published on Amazon and sold nine copies.”

That is what a launch with no reviews, no email list and no categories looks like. Amazon shows a book to strangers only once it is already selling.

From a rough idea to a book that keeps selling

Six stages. Here is what happens in each one, what we do, and what you have to do.

A loose stack of typed pages and notes

Stage one

Idea

You talk, we take notes. You end up with a written outline, a clear reader in mind, and an honest read on whether the book will sell.

What we do

  • A ninety minute concept call, recorded and transcribed

  • A market check on the twelve closest competing books

  • and 2 more

What you do

  • Turn up to one call and talk about what you know

  • Read the outline and tell us what is wrong with it

  • and 1 more

Stage one in full

A bound manuscript, squared and clipped

Stage two

Manuscript

The book gets written. A ghostwriter interviews you, writes in your voice, and you review every chapter as it lands.

What we do

  • Weekly recorded interviews of sixty to ninety minutes

  • A named writer who stays on the project to the end

  • and 2 more

What you do

  • One interview a week for twelve to twenty weeks

  • Read each batch within a week and mark what does not sound like you

  • and 1 more

Stage two in full

A bound book, cover still blank

Stage three

Production

The manuscript becomes a book object: editing, proofreading, cover design, and the interior layout that decides how the printed page looks.

What we do

  • Three passes: structure, then sentences, then errors

  • Two cover concepts and three revision rounds, tested at thumbnail size

  • and 2 more

What you do

  • Approve the edit, cover and interior at three sign off points

  • Read the proof once, carefully. Last chance to catch a wrong date

  • and 1 more

Stage three in full

A finished jacketed hardback

Stage four

Publishing

Your book goes on sale. We open the accounts in your name, upload the files, set the price, and check every listing before it goes live.

What we do

  • Amazon KDP and IngramSpark accounts opened in your name

  • Paperback, hardback and ebook files uploaded, priced and proofed

  • and 2 more

What you do

  • Provide identity and tax details. The accounts and the money are yours

  • Approve the final price and the listing text

  • and 1 more

Stage four in full

The finished book carrying a bestseller sticker

Stage five

Launch

A book merely on sale is invisible. Launch is the weeks where we put it in front of readers who already buy books like yours.

What we do

  • A launch plan with dates, categories and a target for the first thirty days

  • Amazon advertising managed, with spend and return reported weekly

  • and 2 more

What you do

  • Send one email to your own contacts. This matters more than anything we do

  • Sit for three to eight podcast interviews we book

  • and 1 more

Stage five in full

The book beside a small royalty chart

Stage six

Ongoing

Launch ends and the book either keeps selling or it does not. This stage is the difference, and it is the part most companies stop doing.

What we do

  • A monthly royalty and sales report in plain language

  • Review generation through legitimate reader programmes, never paid reviews

  • and 2 more

What you do

  • Read one report a month, which takes about five minutes

  • Tell us when something changes that the book should reflect

  • and 1 more

Stage six in full

Where is your book right now?

Tell us the stage you are at. An editor reads it, then writes back with the honest next step for a book like yours. No charge, and no sales call unless you ask for one.

In case the email bounces, or you would rather we called.

Which one sounds like you

What you are stuck on, what you have tried, what worries you. A line or two is plenty, and leaving it empty is fine.

We reply by email. We never sell your details.

Packages

Three ways to work with us

Pick the one that matches where your book is today. Between two? Ask, and we will say which fits, even when it is the cheaper one.

One author, at full length

I had eleven years of clinical notes and a folder of talks, and three separate companies had quoted me somewhere between nine and twenty two thousand dollars without ever explaining what the difference was.

What made me sign with SG was that they sent me the milestone schedule and the name of my editor before I had paid anything, and the editor emailed me herself.

The part I was most afraid of was that it would come back sounding like a corporate brochure, and it did not, because they sent me two chapters at week four and I could hear my own voice in them.

It has sold just over four thousand copies, and more importantly it is the reason two hospital systems now call me instead of the other way round.

Why SG

Six questions worth asking every publisher

Ask these of everyone you are considering, and get the answers in writing.

Royalties
UsuallyA percentage of every sale, for the life of the book, often called a partnership.
HereYou keep 100 percent. We are paid once, for the work.
The accounts and the ISBN
UsuallyRegistered to the publisher, who then controls your listing, your price and your money.
HereRegistered in your name. Revoke our access tomorrow and the book keeps selling.
Payment
UsuallyThe full sum up front, before a word is written.
HereMilestones tied to delivered work. Stop halfway and you keep what was done.
Who edits your book
UsuallyA team, a pool, or a name you are given after you have paid.
HereA named editor, with their background, introduced before you sign.
Bestseller status
UsuallyGuaranteed, usually by buying a ranking in a category too small to mean anything.
HereNever guaranteed. We forecast before launch, then report the real numbers.
After the launch
UsuallySilence. The invoice is paid and the book is on its own.
HereA monthly royalty report, and someone watching for the month it starts moving.

Who you would actually be working with

Questions people ask before they sign

Including the awkward ones, answered the way they are answered on a call.

  • What does it actually cost?

Between $199 and $999 at the moment, because all three packages are running at half price. The full prices are $399, $1,199 and $1,999. A finished draft that needs editing, design and publishing is the low end. A book written, published and marketed from nothing is the high end.

The price is fixed when you sign and split into milestones, so you are never asked for the whole sum up front. Anything outside the package is priced before the work starts. No surprise invoices.

  • Do I keep my royalties?

All of them. We take no percentage of your sales, ever.

Every retail account, Amazon KDP, IngramSpark, Audible and the rest, is registered in your name with your bank details and your tax information. The money goes from the retailer to you and never passes through us. You can revoke our access to those accounts at any time and the book keeps selling.

Worth checking with anyone you talk to. Some companies register the accounts in their own name, which means they hold your money, your listing and your ability to change the price.

  • How long does it take?

If your manuscript is finished, roughly 8 to 10 weeks to a book on sale. If we are writing it from scratch, roughly 5 to 7 months, and 7 to 10 months for a longer book with an audiobook and a managed campaign.

The single thing that changes the schedule is how quickly you review what we send. Authors who read a batch of chapters within a week finish months earlier than authors who let three batches pile up.

  • Do you guarantee bestseller status?

No. Anyone who guarantees it is either misleading you or planning to buy the ranking in a category so small that the title is meaningless.

Amazon ranks books inside categories, and some are small enough that thirty or forty sales in a day puts a book at number one for a few hours. That is a real ranking and close to worthless, and a company can produce it on demand.

We aim instead at categories where your book can honestly compete, forecast the first thirty days before launch, and report the real numbers afterwards even when they disappoint. Around a third of our launches reach number one in a category that means something, and we will say on the first call which side of that yours is on.

  • How do I know you are not another vanity press?

Check four things, with us and with everyone else you are considering.

Will the retail accounts and the ISBN be in my name, in writing? What percentage of royalties do you take, and do you call a cut a partnership? What is the name and background of the editor on my book, not the size of the team? What happens after launch, and does it cost more?

A company that will not answer those four plainly is not the right company, and that includes us if we ever stop.
